The inbox that
reads itself.
Metis Mail is an open-source mail client for Gmail, Outlook, and Zoho — with an AI agent that lives next to your inbox, drafts in your voice, and never sends a thing without your say-so.
Code on GitHub. Hosted version free while in beta. Your mail stays with your provider — always.
A mail client you already know,
with an AI that quietly helps
Connect a mailbox, and Metis works like the email app you're used to — only smarter. Your mail stays with your provider; Metis never stores it elsewhere.
Sign in once, pick Gmail, Microsoft 365, or Zoho Mail, and grant access. You can connect more than one mailbox and switch from the sidebar. Disconnect at any time and access is revoked immediately.
Open Metis. The agent panel sits next to your mail. Ask it to triage, summarize threads, draft replies, or flag suspicious senders. It never sends or deletes anything without your explicit confirmation.
A chat panel right next to your mail. Ask for a summary of your morning, a draft reply, or who's waiting on you.
Each message gets a verdict before you open it: legitimate, suspicious, or phishing — plus the specific reasons why.
Everything you see here is in the open-source release. No gated "Pro AI" tier hiding the good parts.
A full mail client,
with an AI agent next to it
Everything you expect from a modern mail client, plus an AI agent that actually understands your inbox. Open source, end to end.
A mail client,
and an agent that lives in it
The mail client you already know, paired with an AI that lives where you read your email — not in a separate tab.
An inbox agent that actually helps
Ask in plain English. The agent reads your mail, summarizes threads, drafts replies in your voice, and triages on request. It asks before deleting anything, so you stay in control of what happens to your inbox.
Smart replies & thread TL;DR
Three labelled reply drafts appear above the compose strip the moment a message opens. Long threads get a TL;DR card with key facts and open action items, kept fresh as new messages arrive.
Phishing analysis you can trust
Every message you open is checked and labelled with a verdict, a risk score, and the specific reasons it was flagged — visible before you read a single word. Nothing hidden, nothing black-box.
Open source, end to end
Every part of Metis Mail lives in a public repository. Read the code, file issues, send pull requests, fork it. Run it on your own servers or use our hosted version — the source is the same either way.
"An open-source mail client that ships with the agent already wired up."

Contact usFrequently asked questions
Everything people ask before switching to Metis Mail — providers, pricing, privacy, and the AI agent.
What is Metis Mail?
Metis Mail is an open-source, AI-powered email client for Gmail, Microsoft Outlook / Microsoft 365, and Zoho Mail. It combines a full-featured web mail client with an inbox AI agent that can read and summarize your mail, draft replies in your voice, and analyze messages for phishing — all in one place.
Which email providers does Metis Mail support?
Metis Mail connects to Gmail, Microsoft Outlook / Microsoft 365, and Zoho Mail. You can use several mailboxes side by side in one inbox, with folders, threading, search, and read state kept in sync across providers.
Is Metis Mail free?
Yes — the complete client, including the AI agent and phishing analysis, is open source and free forever if you self-host it. There is also a hosted Cloud version that starts at $12 per user per month, plus a $20 per user per month Workspace plan for teams. The hosted version is free during beta.
Is Metis Mail open source, and can I self-host it?
Yes. The full source code is published on GitHub under an open-source license. You can read and audit every line, run it on your own servers or any cloud you like, fork it, and contribute. The self-hosted and hosted versions run the same code with the same features.
Does Metis Mail read or store a copy of my email?
No. Your mail stays with your email provider — Metis Mail does not copy your mailbox onto its own servers. It connects to Gmail, Outlook, and Zoho over their APIs, and access tokens are revoked the moment you disconnect a mailbox.
What can the Metis Mail AI agent do?
The inbox agent is a chat panel next to your mail. It can list, search, and read messages; summarize long threads into a TL;DR with open action items; propose smart replies in your voice; auto-classify and label mail; and answer questions like 'what needs my attention today?'. It asks for confirmation before deleting anything, so you stay in control.
Does Metis Mail detect phishing?
Yes. Every message you open is analyzed and labelled with a phishing verdict, a risk score, and the specific reasons it was flagged, shown before you read the message. This goes beyond ordinary spam filtering and is built into every plan, including self-host.
Can I use my own AI model with Metis Mail?
Yes. Metis Mail is model-agnostic — you can connect a supported AI provider and choose the model that powers the agent, or use the generous AI usage included with the hosted Cloud plans with nothing to configure.
Is there a mobile app for Metis Mail?
Metis Mail is a web client today and works in any modern mobile browser, so you can use it on your phone now. A native iOS and Android app is on the roadmap — follow the GitHub repository to track progress.
How does Metis Mail keep my account secure?
Metis Mail requires two-factor authentication (TOTP) before any mailbox is reachable, supports password and magic-link sign-in, refreshes tokens in the background, and enforces strict per-workspace data isolation for teams.
